Citra® is a dual-purpose hop that is often used as an aromatic hop.
Citra® was developed in the United States by John I. Haas. Haas, is a versatile hop with an unmistakable citrus profile. It was commercialized in 2008, although it was selected by hop breeder Gene Probasco in the 1990s. It's undoubtedly one of the most popular and iconic hops on the market - without it, pale ales, IPAs and NEIPAs might not have taken off the way they have! Citra® is the delicious base and star of many fruit-flavored beers.
 
Its powerful yet gentle aroma and flavor are floral and lemony, with notes of grapefruit, citrus, peach, melon, lime, gooseberry, grapefruit and lychee.
 
The bitterness is mild and the tropical fruit notes are noticeable. Although Citra® is known for its citrus, there are also notes of currant, gooseberry, lychee, pineapple and a hint of lilac.
 
An excellent choice for IPAs in general, American Wheats, American Pale Ales, Pale Ales, Double IPAs (DIPAs) and Belgian Style Ales.
